Truths Gleaned From Daily Life

Godfidence

Hello there! This is my first blog in 2017. Thank you Ebi for encouraging me to keep going!

The word Godfidence has been stirring in my heart for a while now. It’s an amalgamation of the words God and confidence.

Confidence: the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.

If we add God to the word confidence, the definition is altered and becomes more specific. The new meaning changes to the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on God

Right now there is so much going on, not just in everybody’s individual lives but also in the world. I mean, everywhere I turn Trump is making headlines. It’s almost surreal. Don’t worry, I am not writing about him (not today anyway!). It’s so easy to lose focus and to place our confidence in our abilities, on our material achievements and on human beings. I am guilty of all the above. The truth is, when you place your faith on those things, you get let down. There is always someone better than us. Material achievements are there for a short while and the more you have, the more you tend to want. And last, humans are just that, humans. They falter. They are not perfect.  So we are bound to get let down when we rely on our abilities, material achievements or human beings.

But relying on God, now that’s a different ball game. God is not capable of letting you down! He just can’t. It’s not in Him to let His children down. I struggle to believe this everytime, especially when things are not as I would want them to be. But I try to encourage myself to keep focused on the one thing that is always constant in our ever changing world – God.

In Acts 27, we read about apostle Paul and other prisoners getting shipwrecked. Do you know what Paul told these tired, hungry and deflated guys, in the midst of being in a storm for days? This is what he says:

so keep up your courage, men, for I believe God and have complete confidence in Him that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.

You see, God sent an angel who encouraged Paul. The word he received reinforced his confidence in God. Friend, you have to believe what God has said about you, whether He has spoken to you in your heart, through His word, or through a word you may have received.

Have confidence that it will turn out exactly as God has said. Remember, it’s not in God to let His children down. And that includes you!
