Great Expectations!

Posted on: February 28th, 2016 by Sandi A No Comments

I recently read several tweets about expectancy. One really challenged me. It said “Sometimes you just have to tell people: Excuse me but I’m expecting better than that.”

Thoughts crossed my mind of how we sometimes allow ourselves to settle for less and for what is comfortable because of what people say. I just want to encourage you this morning, don’t settle for less. Have great expectations about what God is going to do in your life. Don’t dummy down your expectations to make them feel comfortable.

God made you for great things and great things will He do in and through you. So next time anyone or anything causes you to reduce your expectations, go ahead and tell them, ” Excuse me, but I’m expecting better than that.”

Happy Sunday friend!

10 Things I learnt in 2015!

Wow, what a year 2015 has been. It still baffles my mind how fast the year has gone.

A lot has happened in my life this year and as I reflect I want to share the 10 truths I have gleaned from my daily life this year. I have tried  to include links to some blog posts for different points I mention.

  1. Time flies; if you have any dreams or plans to do something don’t hesitate to go for it. Let go of fear and grab the hope that God has made available for you. After all, you CAN do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you!
  2. Friends come and go, instead of holding on to all of them ask God to show you who is supposed to stay and who you should let go of.
  3. God can and does take away people from our lives permanently. My grandfather’s death, although a big blow and painful, also showed me God’s faithfulness in how He preserved His life and kept him for a long time. Thank you God!
  4. Pride does come before a fall. No one likes people who show off and are proud; so friend, be humble and you will get further than you can imagine.
  5. It’s time to stop being over-emotional. Don’t be like an orchid, which needs constant care and watering and nurturing; Become an oak tree, the strong person that God created you to be. Sometimes we just have to learn how to tackle challenges face on and not hide away from them.
  6. Whatever happens in life, your family will always be your family. God put them there for a reason and it honours Him when we honour the relationships He has placed in our lives.
  7. When you make a mistake, own it and learn from it. Life is full of decisions that we make that may or may not go so well. So learn from it and encourage somebody else who may be walking the same path.
  8. God answers prayers. Enough said!

  9. God is still in the business of making dreams come true. On this one, I just have to thank God for taking me to Paris this year, something that has always been on my heart for the past 10 years but for one reason or another, I had never made it! But He did it. It might sound cheesy to you but mehn, it’s not to me! And so with you, no matter how little or big or cheesy your dream might seem, God sees and He can surely bring it to pass. After all, He is the one who put those desires in your heart in the first place!
  10. And finally, God is always going around doing good. He is doing so many good things in your life right now that you are probably not aware of. No matter where you find yourself this final day of 2015, remember that God is always working, especially when we think He is not.

It’s been a year of good times and challenging times. I just want to thank God for bringing me this far. He has indeed shown Himself ‘mighty’ in my life this year. This was my one word for 2015. He has truly kept me safe through all my crazy travels, He has provided for me daily, He has increased His favour and wisdom in my life, and He has always been there for me. He has truly been faithful and has been great! And I believe without a doubt that if you reflect over your past year, you will also see how great He has been to you.

Bless you as you begin 2016 with a grateful heart!

Praise Him!

Did I really make the right decision?

Sometimes we wonder whether we can really make it. We think to ourselves, ‘will I really make it this time?’, ‘will I really be able to resist doing that again?’, ‘will I really be able to accomplish this?’.

I have found myself in such situations time and time again. This week I had moments where I was questioning decisions I have made and my mind kept thinking negatively and hopelessly about the future. I remember the time after I had selected what course to study in university, I was confident it was the right decision to make. However, in the middle of my studies I found myself wondering whether I made the right decision, whether I really heard God right when making my decision.

But here is the truth, many times when you make a decision that you believe in your heart and spirit to be right, the devil gets ready to whisper lies in your ears; he puts thoughts of doubt, fear and hopelessness in your mind. In fact he is very good at doing that! In my case, when I look back over the last few years, I believe I made the right decision regarding my university course! I enjoyed my time and enjoyed what I studied =) And most importantly, I see how God was with me and never left me.

Psalms 37:23 reminds us ‘the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delights in his way‘. Friend, because you have Jesus in your life He knows exactly what steps you are going to take and He knows exactly how to order them. The same Bible verse in The Voice says this:

If you are right with God, He strengthens you for the journey;
the Eternal will be pleased with your life.

If you are right with God, that means if you acknowledge Him in every part of your life and being, and every decision you ever make in life [big or small], He strengthens you for the journey ahead. You may ask, Sandi, what if I made the wrong decision. And my answer to you is Psalm 37:24

And even though you trip up, you will not fall on your face
because He holds you by the hand.

God will never see you falling and leave you there. He gently holds your hand, picks you up, dusts you off and helps you take the next step forward.

Be encouraged friend, ‘whatever you have, wherever you are, you can make it through anything in the One [Jesus] who makes you who you are‘ ~ Philippians 4:13 (MSG).
