Encourage Somebody!

For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”) – Acts 4:36

Imagine being nicknamed a son or daughter of encouragement. That would be a great name to have! In the Bible we learn about Barnabas in the book of Acts, who sold his field and brought the money to the disciples. This money was used for the gospel. Before his act of generosity is mentioned, the author of Acts makes sure to reveal his nickname: Barnabas – son of encouragement.

To me, this means that he was someone who would encourage those around him, so much so, that he earned a nickname because of it. When reading this verse it speaks to me of the importance of encouraging those around us. There is so much negativity in our world today that if we don’t encourage each other we can become overwhelmed with fear, discouragement, hopelessness, discontentment and even depression.

So today, I implore you, next time when you are speaking to someone, encourage them.

. Encourage somebody with what the Word of God says about their situation.

Give me anything!

If God was to ask you what you wanted right now, what would you ask for?

If He told you ‘what can I get you daughter?’ what would you ask for?

At right about now, I would ask for a new laptop! Because that’s what I think I need.

But last Sunday while I was talking with one of the young girls at church, she said something that was profound. Her dad was playfully interacting with her and because she finished her crossword, he asked her

She remained silent.

He asked again: “What do you want me to get you, my champion daughter?

She then responded with

Aww I said loudly. It was such an aww moment.

It’s amazing how a five year old girl knows and believes without a doubt that her dad is able to give her anything, and not just anything, but something good. She trusted that the dad would know what to give her. That’s why she said give me anything.

I don’t know about you, but I want to be like this little girl. I want to have a trust and belief like hers.

Cos the truth is, God is our dad. He knows what we need and when we need it. He knows the best things for us. And above all, He sees you and me as His champion daughters!

And so today, He asks you, “What do you want me to get you, my champion daughter?”

Lord I ask you to help me believe and trust that you know what’s best for me, now and everyday of my life. Amen.

My Thank you note to Jesus

I’m writing this note to say thank you.

Thank you Lord that you have never left me alone and you have been with me all throughout. I know that in the past few weeks I have been grumbling and complaining. I am sorry about that and I ask for your forgiveness God.

Time and time again Lord, you remind me that you only have my best interests at heart.

You spoke to me very clearly when you said

All the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day – John 6:37-40

Lord you have promised never to send me away. And for that I am grateful.
