Godfidence

Posted on: February 6th, 2017 by Sandi A No Comments

Hello there! This is my first blog in 2017. Thank you Ebi for encouraging me to keep going!

The word Godfidence has been stirring in my heart for a while now. It’s an amalgamation of the words God and confidence.

Confidence: the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.

If we add God to the word confidence, the definition is altered and becomes more specific. The new meaning changes to the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on God

Right now there is so much going on, not just in everybody’s individual lives but also in the world. I mean, everywhere I turn Trump is making headlines. It’s almost surreal. Don’t worry, I am not writing about him (not today anyway!). It’s so easy to lose focus and to place our confidence in our abilities, on our material achievements and on human beings. I am guilty of all the above. The truth is, when you place your faith on those things, you get let down. There is always someone better than us. Material achievements are there for a short while and the more you have, the more you tend to want. And last, humans are just that, humans. They falter. They are not perfect.  So we are bound to get let down when we rely on our abilities, material achievements or human beings.

But relying on God, now that’s a different ball game. God is not capable of letting you down! He just can’t. It’s not in Him to let His children down. I struggle to believe this everytime, especially when things are not as I would want them to be. But I try to encourage myself to keep focused on the one thing that is always constant in our ever changing world – God.

In Acts 27, we read about apostle Paul and other prisoners getting shipwrecked. Do you know what Paul told these tired, hungry and deflated guys, in the midst of being in a storm for days? This is what he says:

so keep up your courage, men, for I believe God and have complete confidence in Him that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.

You see, God sent an angel who encouraged Paul. The word he received reinforced his confidence in God. Friend, you have to believe what God has said about you, whether He has spoken to you in your heart, through His word, or through a word you may have received.

Have confidence that it will turn out exactly as God has said. Remember, it’s not in God to let His children down. And that includes you!

I choose to be dancing

Posted on: December 3rd, 2016 by Sandi A No Comments

At the end of my last blog post I shared a song that I totally love: I choose to be dancing by Mr Donnie McClurkin. I thought I would share the words of the song with you today.

If you didn’t get the chance to listen to it, here is the link =)

I choose to be dancing – Donnie McClurkin

Another year another day
But this is the life or so they say
Another test another tear
I don’t want to stay here

What you gonna do
Through the storm and through the rain
What you gonna do
When you’ve gotta to start again
What you gonna do
When you’ve gotta face the pain

What you gonna do
When your moment comes around
What you gonna do
When life seems to get you down
What you gonna do
Tell me what will you choose

I choose to be dancing
I choose to be singing
I choose to be loving
Every moment I’m living
I don’t mind the crying
For life can be trying
But when it’s all said and done
I choose to be dancing

A pretty girl she can not walk
She’s in a chair we sit and talk
Her smile is bright I feel ashamed
No more complaining

What you gonna do
Through the storm and through the rain
What you gonna do
When you’ve gotta to start again
What you gonna do
you’ve gotta face the pain

What you gonna do
When your moment comes around
What you gonna do
life seems to get you down
What you gonna do
I don’t know about you but

I choose to be dancing
I choose to be singing
I choose to be loving
Every moment I’m living
I don’t mind the crying
Cause life can be trying
But when it’s all said and done

I choose to be dancing
I choose to be singing
I choose to be loving
Said every moment I’m living
I don’t mind the crying
Though life can be trying
But when it’s all said and done
I choose to be dancing

Prayer: Lord I pray for the person who is reading this right now. You know their situation. I pray you would give your peace and the assurance that you are with them. Give them assurance that you have a fantastic plan for their life. Help them to believe. Help them to choose joy today. Help them to choose to dance and to praise you. Even though it may be hard or they may not feel like it right now, give them the strength to get through this moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I Choose Joy!

Posted on: December 1st, 2016 by Sandi A No Comments

But the fruit of the spirit is unconditional … joy … – Galatians 5:28 (the Voice)

Joy is very different from happiness. In simple terms, happiness is fleeting and temporary. One hour you can be happy about something great that’s happened, and then the next hour something goes wrong and all of a sudden moods change. That was me yesterday – I was so happy all day at a friend’s wedding. And as soon as it was all over, my environment changed and I allowed myself to be preoccupied with different {somewhat challenging} situations. And voila, happy Sandra was no more there.

See joy is different. Joy is the deep inner-knowing that no matter what is going around you, God is still in control. It is the deep-seated assurance and the quiet confidence that everything is going to be alright because God has not abandoned you. It is the determined choice to praise God in every situation.

Looking back over the past few hours, I had a choice to allow my mind to be preoccupied with the circumstances around me, or I could choose joy. I could have chosen to be grateful which would definitely have helped to put things into perspective.

But now I know.

In any and every situation we encounter in life we always have a choice. We can either choose joy, or as I would sometimes say, we can also choose to be a moody cow.

I don’t say this without any empathy for the circumstances surrounding you. But I do say that God has given us the free will to choose. As Christians, we are called to be believers and not feelers. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we have to stand up and opt to believe the truth. We have to believe that God is in control of the grand and miniscule details of our lives. We have to choose to believe that He has not abandoned us. We have to choose to praise Him.

So friend, I encourage you to choose joy this week. You can do it!

And if you think you can’t, just listen to this song ‘I choose to be dancing by Donnie McClurkin (this man can saaaaang)!

Keep smiling =)
